Moving a kitchen sink without jackhammering the slab — San Clemente

A drain camera inspection that found a way to relocate a kitchen sink drain from the side yard instead of breaking up the floor, September 2026.

The problem

What the homeowner was dealing with

The homeowner was planning a kitchen remodel that moves the sink. Following the existing drain route would have meant opening the kitchen floor and possibly jackhammering through the slab.

The job

What we did in this San Clemente home

  1. Camera inspection. Ran a sewer and drain camera through the existing 2 inch cleanout to see how the kitchen drain was laid out.
  2. Drain traced and located. Traced the kitchen line and found where it ties into the main sewer line.
  3. Tie-in marked. Marked the connection point with tape so the future excavation lands in the right spot.
  4. Better route identified. Found that the new sink drain can connect to the existing bathroom drain line from the side yard, avoiding interior slab demolition.
Why it matters

Why look before you cut

Breaking up a kitchen slab adds days of noise, dust, concrete patching and flooring repair to a remodel. Ten minutes with a camera showed exactly where the pipes run, which turned an inside demolition job into a small, targeted dig outside the house.

  • Completed: September 2026
  • Location: San Clemente, CA
  • Owner tip: if a remodel moves a sink or toilet, get the drains camera-inspected before the design is final
What owners ask

Questions about this job

In this San Clemente home, the camera inspection showed the new kitchen drain could connect to the existing bathroom drain line from the side yard, so the work happens outside instead of through the kitchen floor.

It shows the inside of the drain line and lets us trace where pipes run and where they connect to the main sewer, so excavation can be planned to the exact spot.

Before the remodel design is final. Knowing the drain layout early can change where fixtures go and avoid unnecessary demolition.
