Emergency kitchen drain clog cleared in one visit — Laguna Hills
A kitchen sink backing up on one side and barely draining on the other, cleared at the source, April 2026.
What the homeowner was dealing with
An emergency call: the disposal side of the kitchen sink was blocked and the other basin was draining very slowly.
What we did in this Laguna Hills home
- Inspected the drain. Found a soft blockage in the drain line under the kitchen sink.
- Opened the trap. Removed the P-trap to reach the 1-1/4 inch drain line and tee fitting, where the obstruction sat.
- Cleared the clog. Pulled out the debris, mostly tea bags and eggshells, then reassembled and secured every drain component.
- Tested. Ran warm water through both basins for 15 to 20 minutes. Both drained normally, with no backup and no leaks.
What clogs kitchen drains
Kitchen clogs are rarely one big object. They build up from small things a disposal can’t break down well, like tea bags, eggshells, coffee grounds, rice and grease, until they jam at the first tight fitting. Clearing that fitting and testing both sides of the sink confirms the whole drain is open, not just the side that was backing up.
- Completed: April 2026
- Location: Laguna Hills, CA
- Owner tip: keep tea bags, coffee grounds, rice and grease out of the disposal, run warm water while it’s on, and feed food in small amounts
