Smart water shutoff, pressure regulator and leak sensors — Ladera Ranch
A Ladera Ranch home fitted with an automatic main shutoff, a new pressure regulator and leak sensors to meet an insurance requirement, August 2026.
What the homeowner was dealing with
The homeowner’s insurer required a main-line leak protection system, pressure regulation, leak sensors and an inspection of the accessible plumbing.
What we did in this Ladera Ranch home
- Smart main shutoff installed. Installed and configured the homeowner’s 1-1/4 inch YoLink whole-home shutoff on the main water service, so the home can alert on leaks and shut the water off.
- New pressure regulator and check valve. Supplied and installed a 1-1/4 inch pressure regulator and check valve at the main to protect fixtures, appliances and supply lines from excess pressure.
- Copper tie-in. Installed the 1-1/4 inch copper piping and fittings to connect everything, then tested all new connections for leaks.
- Leak sensors placed. Set sensors behind the dishwasher, behind the washing machine, around the water heater and behind every accessible toilet.
- Water heater inspected. Confirmed a 2023 manufacture date, within the 10-year age requirement, and found its accessible connections in acceptable condition with no visible leaks.
Why insurers ask for this
Most water damage claims start at a few predictable spots: the dishwasher, the washer, the water heater and toilets. A sensor at each one catches a leak early, and an automatic main shutoff stops the water even when nobody is home. A pressure regulator lowers the everyday strain that makes supply lines and valves fail in the first place.
- Completed: August 2026
- Location: Ladera Ranch, CA
- Owner tip: test your leak sensors and shutoff a couple of times a year so you know they still work
